OBITUARY

Kathleen Stephanie Kopps Rigali, “Katrina”, age 62, passed away in her Chicago home on August 16, 2025. She was born September 21, 1962 in Milwaukee, WI and traveled the globe both as a United Airlines flight attendant as well as with her friends and family for adventure and fun. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin, Milwaukee and earned her Master of Teaching degree from National Louis University. She was an elementary school teacher for Chicago public schools before becoming a mother at the age of 45 to the joy of her life, Isabella. One of several nicknames bestowed on her was "Chatty Kathy" for her penchant to weave long, winding, detailed stories, as well as equally long voice mails to friends and family. Sometime around junior high she acquired another nickname given to her by her sister Karen, as "Katrina the Ballerina" for her love of movement and dance. The moniker would remain as her preferred name for the rest of her life. Katrina loved to play tennis, ride bikes, garden, explore new places, and share any time with her family and friends.
Katrina was loving, kind, intelligent, playful, non-judgmental, spontaneous and tenaciously loyal, protective and supportive of those she cared about. Once you have earned her trust, you could count on Katrina to be a devoted friend for life. She had an authentic and deeply magnificent spirit. Her smile and laugh were memorable for their beauty and uniqueness, and she possessed so many alluring looks that she was able to communicate subtle (or not) messages with just a minor tweak of her expression. She had a generous, helpful heart of gold and loved to decorate and organize while striving for perfection to please those she loved.
Family and friends were always paramount to Katrina, as she made it a point to visit and host friends and family often and always remained enthusiastic about holidays (Halloween as her favorite), family parties, birthdays or last minute get togethers.
Katrina leaves a legacy of love and laughter and light, and is survived by her spouse, William Charles Rigali Jr. (Rigs), her children Isabella Kathleen, stepchildren Frankie Ostello and Alexandra Rigali, her sisters Karen Scott (Robert), Kimberly Best (James), Kristin Donnelly (Paul) and nieces and nephews Michael Scott ( Hayley), Jack Scott, Sydney Best (Dylan Lingerak), Alexandria, Joe, Amelia.
Katrina was preceded in death by her parents Carl Kopps and Rosemarie, nee Chojnacki
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Northwestern Memorial Foundation, PO Box 734985, Chicago, Illinois 60673-4985. To my Beautiful Sister in law~ It is hard to put into words, the love and joy that Katrina brought to everybody that she touched! Growing up with three brothers, Katrina instantly became one of my new sisters, and I absolutely loved every second I was able to share with her! Whether it was fun adventures in Chicago, ST Simon’s, Seattle, Tokyo and more- to explore the city with her niece and nephew, George and Graycen, or family parties, big and small, Katrina always lit up the room whenever she walked in!! One of my most favorite times was when Katrina would call me at 10 o’clock at night and we would talk till midnight. Chuck and Bella would be fast asleep~ and we would talk and laugh into the night. I miss our sweet special K!! 💕 Katrina was also an Amazing shopper and gift giver. The holidays were her favorite and as Chuck said- Halloween ranked #1! Dressing up and decorating in October - she always amazed me with a new idea or plan!! Her passing has left a hole in our hearts! I am so glad that she is out of pain and watching over her family!! Right up until the last week of her life, she was sharing her beautiful smile with all that visited! Special K- you will forever be in our hearts 💕! Love you to pieces and miss you dearly! 💕xoxo Annie

I met Chuck through work then, I met Katrina. I told him how lucky he was and, what a light she was for him. I can’t express how saddened I was when I heard that bright light was gone. My heart goes out to Chuck and the family. God bless you all🙏🙏

Dear Chuck,

There are no words, just deep sorrow for you, Isabella, family and all who loved Katrina. From the moment we met her, we loved her. Katrina had that extra special something that lit up a room. We don’t see you often but always looked forward to the NFPA conferences and spending time with you two.

The Lord is close to the broken-hearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed.

Chuck and Family,

It has been an honour and privilege getting to know you and Katrina, and Bella; through work and personally. You are all such wonderful, loving, thoughtful people. Katrina's kind voice and laughter was always a pleasant sound whenever she was around; she always had a smile on her face. We are all so saddened and hurting alongside you both. We hope to see you soon. Thoughts, prayers and love from the Lynch Family.

Dear Izzy and Chuck: We cannot express how saddened we all were to hear of Katrina's passing. We all have many fond memories of sitting with Katrina on the soccer sideline while she cheered Izzy and the rest of the Chicago City team on. She was one of the most caring and considerate parents on the team - always happy to see you, give an update, hear about your lives.....just a genuinely beautiful person inside and out.

Izzy - you are always welcome in our home. We hope to see you soon. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this difficult time. Much love, The Bishops

The news of Katrina’s death brought on immediate sympathy and sadness for your loss. The consolation is that she feels pain no more, and then you will see her again. Peace and love to you and your family.

Chuck and Family,

We have known each other for such a long time and have shared a lot of ups and downs together.
Through the years, you have been a great friend and co worker and I can only imagine how difficult this time is for you.
Please know that Tina and I are with you now and will always be with you in the future.
I hope that we can get together soon - either Chicago, Lake Geneva or possibly Bonaire.
Peace and love my friend,

Bob and Tina
