This tribute honors the extraordinary life of Esther Alvarez. Beloved mother, wife, entrepreneur, teacher grandmother, caregiver, friend and cherished soul. Born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, Esther moved to Chicago with her husband and three young children as a native Spanish speaker. With unwavering determination, she taught herself English, built a career in the beauty industry, and achieved homeownership at a time when women were often denied the opportunity. At the age of 53, she earned her associate degree and fulfilled her lifelong dream of opening a beauty school. Esther embodied the transformative power of education and purpose, showing that dreams can be realized at any age. She lived by the principle that everything should be done with tenderness, love and care (TLC) and she cherished family above all. Esther passed way on March 20, 2025. She is survived by her four children and will be reuniting with two children and two grandchildren who have gone before her. She will be deeply missed by her 11 grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 28, 2025, from 3PM until 8PM at Midtown Funeral Home, 3918 West Irving Park Road, Chicago. Friends are asked to meet at St. Benedict Catholic Church, 2215 Irving Park Road in Chicago on Saturday for the Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM. She will be buried between her husband and son at Mount Olive Cemetery in Chicago, immediately following the funeral mass.
