OBITUARY

Genevieve Amarteifio

On March 27, 2025, the world lost a remarkable woman, Genevieve Amarteifio, 57, of Evanston, IL, after she bravely battled cancer.

Genevieve was born in Ghana as one of 16 siblings and later moved to Chicago, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in information technology from DePaul University. She loved school since childhood, showing her dedication and hard work from an early age.

Genevieve had a distinguished career at Astellas Therapeutics, where she worked for over 18 years in various roles within procurement and operations. Her contributions were invaluable, and she played a crucial role in ensuring the company’s operational success.

In her younger years, Genevieve was an athlete, excelling in long jump. She attended New Hope Prep School and Okuapeman Secondary School. She also took computer lessons for two years, which sparked her interest in technology.

Genevieve was a beloved member of the Christian Fellowship for All Nations (CFAN) in Chicago. She served as a deaconess, secretary of the board of trustees for over 20 years, and head of the kitchen department. Her dedication and love for her church family will be deeply missed.

She was an honest, hardworking mother who, as a single parent, made tireless sacrifices to provide her children with a life full of joy and opportunity. She loved chatting on the phone with her mother and family back home, and she had a knack for appreciating quality in everything. Though she was often reserved, Genevieve knew how to light up a room.

Sewing was one of Genevieve’s favorite hobbies, and she had a special talent for creating beautiful African and Ghanaian attire for women. Many of her handmade outfits were worn to church and special events. Her fashion sense was impeccable, and she always looked elegant and stylish.

Genevieve was a peacemaker, firm in her decisions, and a disciplinarian who instilled strong values in her children. She knew how to balance being a mother and a friend to her children, challenging them to be better and always seek God in everything. Her deep love for God was rooted in her Presbyterian upbringing, and she was known for her peaceful nature, refraining from engaging in quarrels or arguments.

Genevieve not only cared deeply about her family but was also a revered friend to many. She loved to shop with her friends, especially her daughter, learn with them, and work with them, creating lasting memories and bonds. She cherished the warmth and joy of summer, and she was immensely proud of her children and their accomplishments.

Genevieve is survived by her two children, Remy Washington and Roland Amarteifio, and their spouses, Blake Washington and Madelynn Carter. She was also a cherished daughter of Lydia Adokailey Kudjodji and the late Ishmael Tei Kudjodji, and sister of Isaac Tetteh Martey.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, from 10:00 AM until the time of service at 12:00 PM at Midtown Funeral Home and Cremation Options, 3918 West Irving Park Road, Chicago, Illinois.

The service will be live-streamed.
