Sending my deepest sympathies and condolences to the Truong family. My earliest memories of Mr. Truong (nearly a a quarter century ago) include riding in his maroon Honda van, when he would drive a group of us high school girls to their house for us to hang out in Michelle’s room. Mrs. Truong would be rolling cake downstairs, Mr. Truong would go about his handyman tasks around the house, and they would often try to feed us. I had the pleasure of continuing to see them over the years. In college, it was during the school breaks when again he would open their home to us so we could catch up with Michelle when she was in town. From Michelle’s birthday parties, their dogs’ birthday parties, Michelle and Adrian’s block parties, their infamous Halloween gatherings, visiting Michelle during maternity leave, to the birthday parties of his beloved grandchildren, Mr. Truong was always a warm, happy, welcoming presence. He was more than just the father of one of my dearest friends; he honestly felt like family. Having lost my dad many years ago, I was so grateful to have been greeted by Mr. Truong, and have a glimpse of fatherly guidance again. When I had children of my own, he was genuinely interested and would check in on my husband and our family. One of my fondest memories of him was when my husband and I bumped into him at the grocery store, and he asked about our baby (as I was pregnant with our first child). He was one of the kindest, friendliest people I have ever met and had the pleasure of knowing.

I know words can never be enough to truly comfort the family at this time, but I hope they know they are not alone. I know he was Michelle’s favorite person. I hope it brings them some comfort knowing he and Mrs. Truong have reunited. Our loved ones truly never go away; they live on in our memories, and especially their children and grandchildren. What a blessing that their love will be passed on for generations.

Michelle and family, we are here for you. Hope you are able to find some comfort and peace at this challenging time.

Love,
Christina and Phu Lu
