OBITUARY
William "Bill" Allan Evanoff, age 52, was born on August 6, 1974, and passed away on August 22, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of kindness, humor, and warmth that will endure in the hearts of all who knew him.
Born and raised in Manitowoc, Wisconsin, Bill earned his undergraduate degree from Michigan State University before attending the University of Chicago Law School. Throughout his legal career at Sidley Austin LLP, Bill was known for his sharp mind and strong work ethic, always serving as a trusted mentor and friend to his colleagues.
On October 6, 2001, Bill married the love of his life, Viviane, and together they built a beautiful life in Chicago centered on family and love. He will be remembered most for his quick wit, his ability to bring laughter to any room, and his trademark mischievous smile. He possessed a rare gift for connecting effortlessly with people, always making sure those around him were left a little happier and in on the joke.
Driven by his own journey, Bill and Viviane shared a deep dedication to philanthropy and community support. Together, they were actively devoted to furthering advancements toward a cure for brain tumors, passionately supporting initiatives at Northwestern Medicine to fund vital progress and bring hope to patients and their families. Bill served as an active member of the Advisory Council for Northwestern’s Lou and Jean Malnati Brain Tumor Institute (MBTI) for many years, including a leadership role as co-chair of the Advisory Council for 2020-2021. He and Viviane also co-chaired the MBTI's 2016 "Minds Matter" fundraising gala to support brain tumor research and treatment. Bill’s dedication to helping others extended throughout the community. He was actively involved for many years with Gilda's Club Chicago and Camp Kesem, providing essential support systems for families affected by cancer. At home, he and Viviane proudly supported the parent organizations for their children’s schools.
Bill’s family extends their profound gratitude to the exceptional doctors, nurses, and support group members who stood by his side throughout his courageous, nearly 23-year battle with a brain tumor and his subsequent battle with blood cancer. Their compassionate care, guidance, and unwavering support provided immense strength and comfort every step of the way.
Bill is survived by his wife, Viviane (née Oyarzun); his cherished children, Sofia and Peter; his mother, Hedwig "Heidi" Evanoff; his parents-in-law, Carlos and Micheline Oyarzun. He is also survived by his siblings, Tom (Mary), Julie (Ken Haas), Kurt (Daniela), Kathy (Jeremy) Herrscher, Jim (Torie), and Beth (Matt) Wanamaker; his siblings-in-law, Sandra (Greg), Christian (Beth), and Monica (Isaac); along with many nieces, nephews, and extended family members. He was preceded in death by his father, Allan Evanoff, and his nephews, Nikolaas and Seth Herrscher.
