OBITUARY

Jason Bradley Ward, 58, of Chicago, Illinois, passed on Wednesday, October 25, 2023, in Chicago. He was preceded in death by his mother, Sonja Rae, his father, Richard Ward, and his stepfather, Jack Hogan. He was the brother of Scott (Karen) Ward and Derek Ward, and stepbrother of Julie (Allison) Hogan and Steve (Angie) Hogan. He was an uncle to Mark Ward and Heather Ward. His aunts and uncles included Doug and Mary Jo Ward, Jim and Pat Richards, Gordon (d.) and Irene (d.) Stokstad, Kenneth (d.) and Virginia (d.) Johnson, and Albert (d.) and Marlyn Sicotte. His grandparents were Clarence (d.) and Dorothy (Cody) (d.) Ward, and Raymond (d.) and Ethel (Fiedler) (d.) Stokstad. Jason was born on January 9, 1965, to Richard and Sonja Rae Ward in Chicago, Illinois. As an adult, Jason briefly lived in New York City, but he soon returned home to Chicago. He spent most of his life living in the Chicago area, mostly in the neighborhoods on the north side of Chicago near Lake Michigan. Jason took after his mother through his interest in the arts and fashion. He took after his father through his interest and ability in dealing with people. He combined his interests with a long career in retail, as well as some part-time interior design projects. Jason attended the Harrington Institute of Interior Design. At different times he worked for such retail giants as Marshall Field's, Saks Fifth Avenue, Bloomingdale's, and Nieman Marcus, in Chicago, and Macy's in New York. The retail environment fit him well because he enjoyed building relationships with people, and he excelled at it.

A Celebration of Life gathering will take place at 1:00 p.m. on December 2, 2023, at the Midtown Funeral Home, 3918 West Irving Park Road in Chicago. Inurnment will be on a future date in the courtyard of St Paul's United Church of Christ, 2335 N. Orchard St, Chicago, 60614. Memorials can be sent to the American Kidney Fund. Jason was a kind and generous person. I have great memories of him when we were kids playing at our grandmother's house when he visited Rockford. I always looked forward to his friendship, laughter and smile during our family gatherings for the holidays. I will miss him very much. My deepest condolences to his siblings and their families. Rest in Peace.

I find myself suddenly with a heavy heart. It's been years since I last saw Jason, but back in the late 1980s to the mid 1990s he and I were joined at the hip. I remember trips taken including to Florida with a mutual friend, Jeanie. Neither he nor she drove leaving the entire 24 hour drive on me while the two of them, played games, took naps, plotted the entire trip....We spent a few nights at some big theme park, Disney I believe, where he managed to score a huge room upgrade for free for the three of us thereby getting him off the hook for not knowing how to drive. The next trip was to Washington D.C. and this time we took the train which was would have been the worst mode of transportation possible had it not been for Jason being his charming self once again to some of the crew and getting a berth....for free. Still another time we went to Michigan to visit his mother and stepfather. Jason holds the distinction of being one of maybe 3 or 4 people who got away with calling his mother by her name while never diminishing the respect he had for her. It was there that I got to see that piece of art with the plastic army men ariund it and about which I had heard so much. Jason had described it with the utmost accuracy. I had nightmares for months. Hee Hee What random things I remember but all of those memories are now all the more important. If this is not a lesson in taking time to invest in wonderful friends I dont know what is. I am so sorry to have lost touch with him, but he will remain in my heart till my final breath.
I love you my friend!!!
