OBITUARY

Mr. Hy Xuan Nguyen

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Hy Xuan Nguyen, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. Hy passed on December 31st at the age of 89. He was preceded in death by his father, Tuoc Van Nguyen, his mother, Chung Thi Nguyen, his sister Thuan Thi Nguyen and his brothers Chuc Van Nguyen, Mung Van Nguyen, Mai Van Nguyen, Son Van Nguyen, Long Thang Nguyen, Dong Van Nguyen, Vinh Van Nguyen. Hy was born on July 2, 1935 in Dong Linh (Hanoi) where he spent his formative years. He went on to attend Petrus Ky (gifted high school) and Air Force Academy in Lackland Air Force Base (Texas). He fought bravely for the South Vietnamese Air Force and left Vietnam with his family in 1975. He settled in the Chicagoland area and worked as a machine operator for the Real Sausage Co. Throughout his career, he was known for his hard work, dedication, and passion for helping others. But more than anything, Hy was a devoted husband and father. He loved spending time with his family playing tennis, taking them on road trips and watching their favorite TV shows. He and his wife, Ly, loved entertaining friends with parties that lasted all weekend. He was, also, an active member of the Chicago Vietnamese community. Hy is survived by his loving wife, Ly Xuan Thi Nguyen, his children Lan Xuan Thi Nguyen, Dai Xuan Thi Nguyen, Phuong Xuan Thi Nguyen, Vinh Xuan Nguyen, Nga Xuan Basile, and My Xuan Thi Nguyen, 14 grandchildren, one great grandchild and his sister, Chi Kim Nguyen. His memory will be cherished by all who knew him. PLEASE OMIT FLOWERS. Arrangements by Midtown Funeral and Cremation Options, 773.654.3744, www.midtownfunerals.com

Daddy, you are loved by so many. All the calls , messages and texts we all are getting from yours and our friends and families are really overwhelming. You have loved ones flying from all over the states to celebrate your life, daddy. We were so hopeful that you’ll have more time with us but it’s God’s calling you home…. No more pain, no more coughing, no more shortness of breath. You’re going to be pulled every which way to tennis, Mahjong, poker, and all sorts of games with your loved ones up there.

I wished you had more time with me in Florida, you had 7 years drivers license, dad… but I know you are needed elsewhere. Please watch over us and we’lll carry your legacy through everything we do.

Love you, daddy, your oldest daughter… and your favorite, I won’t tell. We’ll continue to watch over mommy and make her happy!

My utmost condolences. While I did not know Mr. Nguyen, I still recall how Nga would describe him. It was all too apparent how much she loved him. He sounds a lot like my father-in-law who passed nearly 2 years ago. What a blessed life lived and what a man, Mr. Nguyen must surely have been. His memory lives on through Nga, her siblings, and all his grandchildren. 🙏🏼

Bac Hy,

Thank you for your kindness and generous spirit. I have many fond memories of all the time that our families spent together--Trick or treating at Halloween, Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners, visiting the Wisconsin Dells. Your friendship meant so much to my parents, and I am thankful that our families remain close. You will be missed here on Earth, but we have comfort in knowing that you are with the Lord in Heaven now.

With love,
Phuong Mai, Kevin, & Family

My deepest sympathies go out to all of Nguyen family, I had the pleasure of meeting all of you at Saint Francis Hospital. I am so very sorry for your loss. I know very difficult this holiday season has been for your family. I never met Mr. Nguyen; however, I feel as though I knew him through you, his devoted family. He most certainly was a tremendous Father as witnessed by me, through all of you. I will continue to keep you in my thoughts and prayers.
Fondly, Josephine O'Malley
