OBITUARY

Joseph (Butchie) Francis Guth of Chicago passed away unexpectedly at the age of 77. He was one of two children born to Gertrude and Joseph Guth He is survived by his brother, Jerry (Christine) and his beloved nephews, Robert (Jill) & Michael (Ashley). He was loved by many and was blessed with 10 grandnieces and grandnephews – Maddie, Payton, Reilly, Emersyn, Josalyn, Annaliese, Gabriella, Cecilia, Michael and Isabel as well as great grandnephews Grayson & Kellen.

He was a true epitome of the good guy who enjoyed life to the fullest, never holding a grudge and always laughing with epic storytelling capabilities. Joe’s favorite song was ‘Rollin’ With The Flow’ by Charlie Rich which clearly defines the kind of life he lived. Listen to the lyrics and you will realize what a free spirit he was. His career encompassed being a carpenter for the Chicago Local #10 for many years. He was a huge influence to both his nephews who both also went into the construction business. Prior to that he was a well-respected certified mechanic who worked at various car dealerships as well as Harold’s gas station. Fueled by his love of fast cars, his pride and joy was the very first production of the high performance 1970 Buick GSX. In his younger days he played bass guitar in his band called the Ohio Street Exit. Joe spent most of his summers in Milton, Wisconsin. He made every effort to be in attendance for any milestone event – family or otherwise - or any get-together for that matter. You couldn’t ask for a more supportive brother, uncle, cousin or friend. The party didn’t start until he showed up. He always had a story to tell and people were drawn to him because of his warmth and heart. He will be greatly missed. His death has created a huge void in our family.

A Memorial Gathering will be held on May 2, 2026, from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM at Midtown Funeral Home 3918 West Irving Park Road, Chicago, Illinois.

In lieu of flowers, two of Joe's favorite charities were St. Jude Children's Research Hospital or North Shore Animal League.

Arrangements under the direction of Midtown Funeral Home and Cremation Options. For information: 773.654.3744.
