OBITUARY

Mr.Tekeste Hannes Mengisteab, age 75. Passed away on January 11, 2026.
Tekeste Hannes was born on June 25, 1950, to his father, Hannes Mengisteab, and his mother, Genet Goitom, in the village of Azayehe, Zoba Debub, Eritrea.

Widely known for his strong work ethic and unwavering honesty, Tekeste found great joy in simple yet meaningful pursuits, particularly spending time with friends over coffee and taking long walks through city parks. These are moments that demonstrated his reflective nature and deep appreciation for companionship.

Tekeste dedicated 32 years of faithful service at Chicago O’Hare International Airport, where he worked consistently with responsibility and pride.

While living in Sudan, Tekeste met his beloved wife, Nigisti Hagos. Four years later, in September 1983, they immigrated to Chicago, Illinois where he resided continuously until his passing. Chicago became his second home; a place where he raised his family and built lasting friendships.

Tekeste is survived by his devoted wife, Nigisti Hagos, and his children, Tesfu Lula, and Fnan. He also had nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Tekeste Hannes will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him. In accordance with his wishes, he will be laid to rest in Eritrea, the land of his birth, completing a life journey marked by generosity, and devotion.

Funeral Service Monday, January 19, 2026 beginning at 6:00am at the Holy Trinity Eritrean Orthodox Tewahdo Church, 7310 N Rogers, Chicago, IL 60626. Interment Montrose Cemetery,Chicago.
