OBITUARY

Debra Toler Nettnin
September 16, 1956 – October 27, 2025

Debra “Debbie” Toler Nettnin, age 69, of Chicago, Illinois, passed away on October 27, 2025. Born in Man, West Virginia, on September 16, 1956, Debra brought smiles, warmth, humor, and love to everyone she met.

She loved the Lord, her family, her friends, and the many pets who shared her home and heart over the years. Debbie had a gift for making people feel cared for — she was the neighborhood “mom” and “grandma,” always ready with kind words, a laugh, or something good to eat.

She enjoyed simple joys: spending time with her family, especially her grandkids, playing her favorite phone games, watching action movies and TV shows, and going out for meals with her friends. Her presence filled every room with comfort, and her love for her family was unwavering.

Debra was the beloved wife of the late Scott Nettnin, and the devoted mother of Scotty (Ana), Stacy, Trisha, Samantha, and the late Cassandra. She was a proud and loving grandmother to Vincent, Chloe and Elisha, and cherished sister to the late Shirley (Jerry), Karen (late Malcolm), Linda (Jim), and Patricia (Charles). She is also survived by many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends who will forever hold her in their hearts.

Debbie’s life was one of kindness, faith, and quiet strength. She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew her.

You will always be my baby sister. I will miss your laughter, your beautiful smile with those cute dimples. You were my best friend. We could discuss any thing, even politics with out arguing. I'll miss our visits, our phone calls, and our exchanges of face book posts. You were a strong woman that held onto her faith and belief. You will always hold a special place in my heart. I will love you for ever.

I met Debbie in 1997 at St Jospeh hospital. We worked in different departments so we really just said our hellos and goodbyes. I really got to know her in 2016, when we had to work side by side. My first impression was how approachable and funny she was. Since she had a critical position in the ER, everyone knew her.. But even if she didn’t have this position, Debbie would still talk to everyone because she enjoyed meeting people. She was generous with her time, her advice and her friendship. She extended her friendship to me and I accepted readily. We were able to talk about anything, displayed our vulnerabilities to each other, discussed our wins and failures…..all without judgement. She was a true friend.
We loved to laugh and we enjoyed just being silly! I remember during one of our lunch dates, I told her that I had lost a tooth. She turned to me and said that she as well had lost one too! So we looked at each other and inspected our “tooth gap” . I insisted that she lost her tooth on purpose because she was jealous of me . We couldn’t stop laughing….we took a picture to celebrate this coincidence!
Her true treasures were her children and grandchildren. She loved them dearly.
Goodbye my sweet Debbie, it has been a privilege to be called your friend. I will cherish our time together. You will be missed!
