OBITUARY

Mrs. Carol Lynn Martin

Born and raised in Chicago, Carol found beauty in art and music. She graduated from Amundsen High School before continuing her education, fueled by dreams of becoming a fashion designer and traveling to Paris—visions shaped by her deep love for creativity. When her best friend, Elaine, passed, that dream shifted, but her love for art remained a constant source of joy and inspiration. She adored her mother, father, and brother, holding family close to her heart throughout her life. She built a beautiful life with her first husband, Jim Garofalo, and their two children, James and Samantha. Watching them grow brought her endless joy, and she was their biggest champion—celebrating every accomplishment with pride. Later, she was blessed with two beautiful grandchildren, Josie and Donovan, who became the light of her life. In time, she remarried Dan Martin, creating new adventures filled with laughter and love. This union gifted her a stepson, Chris, whom she embraced as her own. The Smokey Mountains and the Grand Canyon became places of serenity for her, where she marveled at nature’s wonders. Friendships enriched her life, and she treasured memories with the Adontes girls' club. Music filled her home. Some favorites were Billy Joel, Steely Dan, The Doobie Brothers, Three Dog Night, and, of course, Tony Bennett. She was hardworking and thrived in her career, including her father’s business. She took immense pride in her home, constantly rearranging furniture until everything felt just right. She enjoyed classic television— Garfield Goose as a child, Matlock, and Columbo. She found comfort in films, with Baby Boom and How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days ranking among her favorites. Simple comforts delighted her—Lou Malnati’s pizza, Kraft Mac & Cheese, hot dogs, and a cheeseburger with fries (always crispy). Her life was a tapestry of love, strength, and resilience. Even in the face of a debilitating illness, she never wanted pity. She simply wanted to live with grace.
